With a 175-year old collection of historical records from both its predecessor institutions and from donated materials, UoW faced the challenge of safeguarding, preserving and providing global access to its digital and digitised collections using a cost-effective, state-of-the-art and end-to-end digital preservation solution.
Arkivum’s Perpetua is a digital preservation and access solution that can be deployed and operated as either cloud-based or on-site. UoW is using Perpetua that uses open-source tools such as Archivematica to provide preservation functionality. UoW chose Perpetua because it’s a comprehensive suite of digital preservation tools that also provides added benefits such as search, discovery and automation. And it is, of course, based on Arkivum’s unique 100% data integrity guaranteed storage solution.
UoW felt that Arkivum’s Perpetua solution was best suited to serve their long-term needs: their institutional records are unique and are an important part of the heritage of the institution and Arkivum is a trusted partner established in the world of digital preservation. It was also important to UoW that the Arkivum solution was on the Jisc framework as this greatly facilitated procurement (pre-negotiated contract and pricing negating the need for tendering).
The Arkivum team is proud to have been selected as the University of Westminster’s partner for safeguarding and preserving its digital assets.
