The South West Heritage Trust Selects Arkivum

London – 11th January 2018. Arkivum Ltd., a leading provider of compliance-driven long-term data safeguarding and digital preservation solutions, has announced that the South West Heritage Trust (SWHT) has chosen Arkivum’s digital archiving and preservation solution to ensure that the Trust’s digital assets are kept secure and made more accessible to the public. This effort will help preserve the rich cultural heritage of Somerset and Devon for future generations.

SWHT is responsible for over 7 million original documents relating to the history of Somerset at the Somerset Heritage Centre, and of Devon at the Devon Heritage Centre and the North Devon Record Office. The Trust provides open public access to the archives and digital records on site, and by implementing Arkivum’s solution, the Trust will be able to offer a dramatically improved data integrity across the entire digital collection.

Arkivu provide an end-to-end digital preservation and archival secure safeguarding solution designed from the ground up to address the unique requirements and challenges of the Heritage, Libraries and Higher Education markets. Our modular solution enables organisations to select the functionality suitable for current needs, and add others as requirements evolve.

Janet Tall, Head of Archives and Local Studies for SWHT, said: “We needed a solution that would archive both born-digital and digitized records, containing information which is often highly sensitive, as well as increasing the range of formats we can accept, including emails and eBooks, all while delivering a 100% guarantee of authenticity and reliability. We are delighted that Arkivum’s solution meets these requirements, and it will form a fundamental part of the Trust’s operational ability to meet its current and future strategic objectives.”

Paula Keogh, Arkivum Sector Manager for HE and Heritage markets, added: “We are very pleased to have SWHT join our Arkivum community. The Arkivum team is dedicated to managing the Trust’s growing volumes of data over the coming years as more statutory records are received as born-digital, and ensuring that collections are compliant, accessible and useable for the long term.”

About SWHT

Founded on 1 November 2014, the South West Heritage Trust is a renowned charitable organisation located across six main sites, and continues the delivery of services previously hosted by Somerset and Devon County Councils.

In February 2017, the Trust completed an IT transformation project to implement an entirely new and independent IT infrastructure (services previously provided by Devon County Council and Somerset County Council) including the provision of a new MPLS network connecting the five operational sites managed by the Trust to a central data centre providing managed co-location services. This enables the Trust to deliver a range of new digital services across the organisation.
