Josephine Johnson, Support Engineer

Q1. Hi Josephine, tell us what do you do at Arkivum? What does a typical day look like?

I am a support engineer at Arkivum; a typical day for me would be to work on support issues raised by clients who are live or in UAT (User Acceptance Testing), which is the last phase in the testing process. I also work on integrating our product with third party software.

Q2. What attracted you to the role at Arkivum?

I started out as a JAVA developer, but I moved into application support four years into my career. I found that this role suited me best, as it involves root cause analysis and customer interactions. I am more productive when I understand what the product means to a client.

Q3. Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do? How did you decide to go into it?

I did my degree in Information Technology, but at that time I did not know where it would take me or if it was the right choice to make.

But a few months into my job , I liked what I was doing. When I had to work from client site in the U.S. to support the application I helped develop, I decided that was the right move for me and since then I have always worked in client services. I consider myself very lucky, as I had amazing mentors/managers who helped me get this far.

Q4. Any advice for women looking to work in the Tech industry? Anything you wished you had known before you started?

This is definitely not just a man’s world and there is and will always be space for women to learn and grow in any industry.

Q5. How do you keep physically and mentally fit?

Physically I am not as fit as I should be, but I have enrolled myself to yoga classes and I hope to get fit someday. I read a lot of fiction to keep myself mentally fit (reading and shopping are my stress busters). I love the works of Charles Dickens and Agatha Christie.

Q6. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t take your job too seriously 😊

Q7. What’s next for you?

At Arkivum, my next step would be to start interacting more with clients and I look forward to it.
