Shirisha Veereti, HR & Administrator

Q1. Hi Shirisha, can you tell us what do you do at Arkivum? What does a typical day look like?

Being an HR and Administrator, I handle all of the recruitment for Arkivum at India and provide mentorship for the team members to boost their morale to build better and positive productivity. I also manage all of the necessary documentation and coordination for facilitating an easy workflow for the team.  On a typical day I just think about one piece of advice which I got from my manager, Ram, during one typical incident, which I now always follow – Don’t lead your work. Let it lead you. I absolutely love what I do and from that one piece of advice, I have learnt a great deal about where to spend my time and energy.

Q2. What attracted you to the role?

Visibility attracted me towards the role of HR. My daily duties involve me attracting and retaining people, communicating with them and creating company policies. My day begins with the excitement of cooking for my family, spending some time with my daughter, then heading to the office for more excitement at work. This drives me with energy and passion every day.

Q3. Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do? How did you decide to go into it?

No, I was never really keen on choosing an industry. It was always by chance that I moved from one job to another in my career. But after I started working here and started to understand the technology, I started loving my job in the tech industry as a People Manager (HR) and have decided to focus on this area.

Q4. What’s the best part of being a Woman in Tech? And the worst?

Though it’s certainly challenging to be a woman in the technology field, I love seeing silver-lining stories from some of the best women achievers. Seeing other women thrive and excel and live their dreams doing meaningful work that they love should help serve as encouragement to others and further the fight for equality and equity.

Q5. Any advice for women looking to work in the technology industry? Anything you wished you had known before you started?

For women aspiring to work in the Tech industry I would say three fundamental formulae; Know Your Voice, Stay Curious, and Quick adaptability.
Yes, I felt sad about a lack of industry awareness and the career path in the tech industry before I joined my current company.

Q6. How do you keep physically and mentally fit?

Firstly I maintain a healthy mind state by being positive to keep me mentally fit and happy all time. Physically, most of my time is dedicated to work at home as well at the office. But I make sure I go for a brisk walk everyday to keep up my physical fitness.

Q7. Who are your influencers?

Jayanti Chauhan, Director at Bisleri. She’s been one of my business’ influencing woman for her exceptional leadership skills and the vision. Priyanka Chopra, film actress. I’d been following her on the social media and listening to most of her videos ever since I first heard her while she was competing in Miss World 2000.

Q8. How do you keep up to date with the fast paced Tech evolution?

I assess my current skills and performance and follow the industry trends to update myself with the latest trends.

Q9. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

‘Serve by leading and lead by serving’. It keeps things nice and simple – you are here to support others, and sometimes that means you have to lead them.

Q10. What’s next for you?

What’s next for me? Hmmmm this is something to think over. Be it next or current, I want to be a better human, a woman empowerment star for my colleagues and the society around me. On a personal level, I want to continue to cherish my parents, be an always loving wife to my husband and a highly influencing mother to my daughter.

Thanks, Shirisha.

Next week, we’ll be introducing you to Josephine Johnsson, Support Engineer at Arkivum.
