Principal Java Developer

Role: Principal Java Developer
Reporting to: Director of Engineering
Location: Green Park, Reading
Term: Permanent

The Role

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Principal Java Software Engineer to join an Agile development team based in our Reading offices. The project involves building out an archiving SaaS platform that will respond to the high volume and rapidly changing needs of our customers in regulated markets such as finance and life sciences.

Key Tasks

  • Lead the design and implementation of cloud-scale software components to meet business requirements within a cross-functional Agile Scrum team
  • Help guide less experienced team members towards solutions
  • Take responsibility for the continuous smooth operation of the software; helping to troubleshoot issues, refine and enhance existing features and enable upgrading to new versions
  • Write unit tested, documented and peer-reviewed code
  • Work with Product Managers and QA to ensure software is high quality and meets requirements

Skills / Experience

Essential

  • Proven industry experience of leading the delivery of a major software component in a technical lead or team lead role
  • Proven track record of delivering software solutions to meet business requirements within time constraints
  • Proficient with core Java, Spring and SpringBoot\
  • Unit testing, e.g. Junit
  • RESTful web services (e.g. JAX-RS, Spring MVC)

Desirable

  • Developing microservices and distributed systems on a multi-tenant cloud platform
  • Apache Kafka or other JMS Queue experience
  • XML Schema (XSD)
  • Angular UI development
  • Deploying, managing and monitoring applications on Linux
  • Cloud-based virtualization technologies (e.g Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure)
  • NoSQL: Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr
  • Keycloak, OAuth
  • Managing build dependencies and packaging with Maven
  • Experience of working to ISO 27001 standards
  • Use of Git for source control and JIRA/Confluence for tracking and documentation
