Webinar Recording: Environmental Sustainability of Digital Preservation in the Cloud

This webinar explored environmentally sustainable digital preservation using the cloud.  There are some great discussions and ideas in the digital preservation community at the moment around environmental sustainability of long-term digital preservation. But there are also some misconceptions, out of date arguments, and lack of real data.  

There’s also a lot more to consider than just carbon footprint and energy consumption when it comes to environmental sustainability, for example embodied footprint, consumption of other scarce resources such as water, and even noise pollution.   

Environmental sustainability of digital preservation is a complex and fast-moving area, especially when considering the extended supply chains and content lifecycles in involved.  

This webinar looked at these issues, present how Arkivum has measured carbon footprint of preservation in the cloud, and look at how this can offer a way to make more informed decisions and choices about long-term digital preservation.
