The University of Zululand selects EBSCO and Arkivum
Arkivum, in partnership with EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO), is delighted to announce that The University of Zululand, South Africa has selected Perpetua as its long-term digital preservation and data archiving solution.
The University of Zululand is a comprehensive university offering approximately 252 accredited degrees, diploma and certificate courses across the faculties of Arts; Education; Science and Agriculture as well as Commerce, Administration and Law at the KwaDlangezwa and Richards Bay campuses.
The University has selected our solution to support a range of long-term data management requirements in its library including;
Safeguarding the library’s scholarly and digital data by ensuring records are encrypted and stored in multiple locations. Within the solution, Arkivum will also provide an audit trail of any changes that are made to ensure transparency and openness across the faculty.
Preserving the library’s digital content and materials so users will always be able to read and access them, regardless of technology changes in the coming years. This will also include custom preservation file formats, bespoke configurations, and data renormalization on-demand.
Easy usability to enable the library to provide access to the archived materials via an end-user UI powered by AtoM.
In addition, Arkivum will integrate Perpetua into a number of existing University applications including DSpace, EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) and Stacks. These integrations will create a seamless experience for users of the system, making data easy to access in the future while also being secure and safeguarded.
Laila Vahed, the Director of Library and Information Services at the University of Zululand, said, “the Library had been seeking a secure archival solution for some time and was immediately interested when she read about Arkivum and the fact that they were partnering with EBSCO.
The University of Zululand has had a long and trusted relationship with EBSCO, and therefore we did not hesitate to get on board with Arkivum, and we feel that we will be at ease knowing that our archival data will now be more secure.”
“We are delighted to bring the University of Zululand onboard as a customer and this further demonstrates the value of our solution to higher education organisations around the world,” said Yaron Naor, VP and General Manager at Arkivum. “This announcement is also another example of the growing strength of our partnership with EBSCO, helping libraries across the globe to improve research with quality content and technology.”
EBSCO information Services Vice President of Open Source Platforms and Communities, Christopher Spalding says, “the University of Zululand is a great example of an institution that can benefit from the partnership between EBSCO and Arkivum.
Arkivum meet all The University of Zululand’s needs for long-term data management while also integrating into both open source and EBSCO services designed to provide choice and leverage the benefits of interoperability.”
